My husband is a mechanical engineer in asheville, and his company is trying to find more mechanical engineers and having a hard time. I guess it’s hard to find a decent job when you don’t have a decent degree.

I live in swannanoa and there are a lot of challenges. We don’t have a grocery store back yet. But there are a lot of people working here to make things better for people. Asheville experiences the same tourist driven economy challenges as any other tourism based economy . Have you joined any of the Helene recovery meetings or volunteer efforts? That’s where I see the vision and the inspiration. Carolina Forward and other groups are also working hard to change the state politics and help with the gerrymandering. I donno man, I’ve lived a lot of places and this is one of the most special places I’ve ever been. The volunteer and community building opportunities are everywhere. Be a helper 💙

Asheville is cool of you are rich or have rich parents or are in construction or arborist work and also like traffic and being completely car dependent. For a city that prides itself on being green, it’s one of the least green or efficient cities.

Every person I’ve met from “Hendo” has this opinion. It’s clear these people pretend to read the Bible and never been out of their comfort zones. The only reason anyone knows anything about hendo is because of the proximity to Asheville. Clearly this dude has never been to Boone county WV or Camden NJ!!!!

CNBC names NC as the top state for business for the third time in 4 years, in 2024 NC added over 60,000 jobs. not saying WNC and Asheville especially doesn’t have its professional base issues (mainly service/hospitality and healthcare) but saying that NC is the worst place to find a job is just factually not true. You forget Asheville is a boutique town, so of course its going to be expensive to live here. Geography prevents a lot of job providers from coming in but geography is what tourists come for and keeps the little jobs we have alive. It’s a catch 22 for sure, but it’s not a dirty little secret. If you’re looking for something else there’s nothing stopping you from moving to Burnsville, Etowa, Maggie Valley, Cullowhee, or Mississippi where cost of living is lower and job opportunities are realized similar in regards to service and hospitality

there are actually alot of manufacturing jobs just right outside of city limits. you just have to be willing to work in a warehouse with no AC and 100% humidity 🤣
