@circuitboredd: I am always looking to get better at pc building and repairs. This BGA rework station is the next step. Excited to dial it in and get better with the temps. Stay tuned for some awesome pc repairs. #pcrepair #computerrepair #gamingpc #asus #laptoprepair #techrepair #pcgamer
those caps are cooked so needs replacement anyway. cover everything with capton tape to protect it from excessive heat

Why don't we already have interchangeable CPU sockets that use a universal, simple to attach socket? We could also switch to Intel/AMD just by changing the socket...

Use foil tape to reflect the infrared heat to stop melting. Kapton doesn’t stop heat just holds stuff in place as it the tape doesn’t melt under the temp

Awesome, stuff like this i find really interesting.
To fix technical stuff instead of just throwing it away is satisfying.

how do you avoid the capacitors moving?

How were you lifting it off the board? I would solder an uninsulated wire to the pins to lift it off the board.

The tape is NOT enough to protect those cap capacitors from the heat. I highly recommend you make a metal shroud for them
