@hannahchasinghappy: Replying to @Liz Mar Mey curious if others don’t let their kids pick their backpack for school? I absolutely want him to love it & be excited for it
Totally normal to be excited to let your kid pick a backpack. As my kids got older and had more expensive taste and could take care of their bags, we did a new one every other year.

So you give him a choice of backpacks at or under the price point you can afford

all three of my kids get to pick their backpacks. we talk if it is outrageous with the talk but they are the ones with it and if I can afford it why does it matter what we do with our money.

My kids get to choose from options. My oldest had chosen a north face that was $100 and WHITE 😑😑😑. I found a few dupes and she very happily chose one of those.

It baffles me, my kids favorite part of school shopping is back packs! Granted, we try to stay under $40 because they want one every year. Shoot my older one has asked for a new back pack for Christmas too. It’s like a purse, I change purses why can’t he change bags?

Always bought high quality, neutral backpacks. Had one through elementary and one for middle/high school. Both still in great shape and I am sure I saved money in the long run.

I always let my kiddo pick out whatever they wanted within a certain price range. I also told them that if it gets damaged before the end of the school year they had to buy their own replacement. Happened once in 3rd grade and NEVER again. It happens to be their backpack. They have to be with it. It's like a purse... you want what you want. Why cant they? Thats a weird hill for some parents to die on 🤷🏼♀️😅

I feel like this is one thing kids can still choose. let them choose! lists these days specify color of folders, notebooks, etc that they don't get any choice in supplies. let their personality shine in what they can choose!

I'm with you on this. My daughter picks a new backpack every year. Last year and this year she has chosen Lovevook bags. They are pricy but it's functional and she loves it. With my money I can do what I want and I can still complain about the cost if I want. But don't need anyone's opinion

If you know it’s good quality and it will last a couple years then yes I will let them choose it. Under no circumstance would they be able to get another one the following year.

As a child, I didn’t care about namebrand stuff, but my dad did because he grew up poor and knew that kids are not kind and will pick on you so he always made sure we had branded things. You’re doing great and your son is going to appreciate you caring about his wants and thinking about him and not yourself

Kids picking out their new backpack each year before school is exciting to them. My kids are in middle school and high school and they don’t care anymore and I miss the days of them getting excited to pick them. I miss them little
