@authorstephennothum: This may be the first time I’ve made a video under-analyzing something 🤣 #supermanmovie #jamesgunn #superman #filmanalysis #movietok #movies #filmtok
I think the scene also shows that to his parents he’s just a normal guy like he’s just their son so he’s just talking to his son about a random nonsensical day that he had and food that he ate because to him he isn’t Superman. It’s just his kid.

That felt very real. Just a dad shooting the shit to help his son clear his head

My small town mom calls me like that and dad talks about his new Chinese place(it’s Vietnamese). When they visit me in the big city they embarrass the heck out of me. But I love them!

THIS! This is a typical conversation with family if you’re from a small town.

also it’s showing his quaint language. we went with “hector and them” to that place “up on that I-90”. very country. and he’s starting by talking about something else, then broaching the more serious subject. classic dad move.

Also can I say I’m disappointed at the hate they’re getting for the casting? I thought Ma and Pa Kent were pitch perfect. They felt like real parents, looked like real normal average person parents.

It’s quite literally just a regular everyday conversation 😂 it’s not deep folks. It’s just a basic passing conversation. I don’t live in a small town but we definitely gush about incredibly outstanding restaurants

I came from a small town and attend college in a big city out of state, and the conversations Clark has with his parents in the movie are SO real, especially this and the FaceTime in the beginning

i always saw it as his attempt to show his son some sense of normalcy when the rest of his world was falling apart

That scene just meant two things: those were some BOMB burritos and remember this is an immigrant story. Super simple. Also the burritos.

People talk about the food they’ve just eaten all the time. Like that is a very common topic of conversation. I am confused by these people’s confusion.

You’re explanation is spot on. I also grew up in a rural area, and when I visit, I hear similar convos. “We have a Starbucks now. Remember that old hamburger place that we used to go to in 95? Sure miss that place. It’s over there.”

That was the most normal exchange. Like what else your dad gonna tell you in the morning? Unless it was a great deal he got on bananas at the store. That’s such a normal dad convo. 😅

This is the first time the Kents have actually felt like rural Midwestern country people. It was a grounded conversation I've had a million times.

I'm from a suburb close to KCMO and I didn't think twice about the story being strange. lol It is totally normal to talk about a meal you had recently.

Without any of that. It was a dad trying to relate to his kid, and he starts by saying “hey, remember when we went to this burrito place?” He’s figuring out what’s wrong with his kid. I saw that moment in theater, and immediately saw my dad. I saw a man who doesn’t know the words to say because he doesn’t know what’s wrong. Pa Kent was a dad from the Mid-West talking to his son.

Just to add to it. Some people may know that Howard Stern produced Richard Christy was asked to have his parents, who are from Kansas, to speak with James Gunn to get that authentic Kansas accent. And a frequent topic Richard’s dad would talk about via voicemail was Tinko Taco so I wouldn’t doubt that’s a bit of a connection there.
