@sexygramma02: WEST VIRGINIA PENITENTIARY: Considered to be one of the most haunted prisons in the US.Located in Moundsville, West Virginia. The prison was built in 1876, and operated until 1995. At it's prime it held more than 1,000 inmates. Until 1947 women were housed in a designated wing of the prison.It was notorious for overcrowding, violence, rat infestation, and harsh tempurarures. The Penitentiary gained a grim reputation for riots, prisoners escaping, and public executions. Nearly 100 inmates were executed. Hanging was legal at the prison until 1949. When that was abolished they resorted to the electric chair. Notoriously nicknamed "Old Sparky" last photo.
