I know these women of course don’t speak for all disabled folks but these are some VERY pragmatic takes on the use of the language. I have a very strange relationship with language rigidity BUT I always want to be respectful and use person first language where warranted, wanted, and appropriate.

We are disabled BY the decisions of others. By the society we live in. For example: We have the ability to enter doorways (in our wheelchairs). When someone decides there should be stairs before that doorway.. that is what disables us. We are disabled

I prefer identity first (for myself), because person first always makes it sound, to me, as if I can remove my disability as if it's an attachment. But I'll accept either from people who don't know me.

Disabled. I’m disabled. It’s not a dirty word and using euphemisms for it or demanding “person first” language only further exacerbates the stigma. Disabled people are obviously people, AND, we’re DISABLED
