Isn’t it something that politics was never talked about in my home. After I started paying attention, I realized my mom was a republican and I was definitely not. In 2016 she had a second eye stroke and went completely blind. I had to fill in her mail in ballot and it killed me to check off his name. I told her my vote cancelled out hers 😅

when I was a teen I got a job and a grocery store which was great because everybody needs groceries and I learned to talk to people who are rich poor young old conservative liberal citizens immigrants college students - great training for life! great training for life!

I cannot get past people I thought I knew who voted for trump. I cut off my best friend of 30 yrs bc when I ask her if she voted for him & she replied with “ if I say yes will it change our relationship “ and I proceeded to write her a long letter/text explaining that yes it will change our relationship bc she voted directly against my family, against my children, grandchildren and against my social security & disability insurance that I had to fight 8 yrs for me to receive it! She voted against humanity, empathy, compassion, humility, love, common decency & respect for anyone who doesn’t share the same skin color as her. I’ve cut family members over the past decade because of their support for trump but they didn’t hurt as bad as she hurt me. This woman was by my side during the hardest times of my life. Hearing her spew the rhetoric the GOP used was nauseating. I saw her in September 2024 and I begged her to read project 2025 or to read what Kamala was wanted to do for everyone in this country and nm

I believe diversity is what makes this country so great and as you said we all have a history or our family has history. Due to changes made by our parents and grandparents our world looks a little different. We can’t change who people want to be or what they believe but can pray and hope to continue to bring light into a room and work to change the narrative and communities around us. I was raised democrat…. I turned as I got older….im ok with people having different views.. is the dem side that can’t be cool with us… ill stick my group if need be because you can’t be friends with someone who doesn’t have the same political view.. my group is very diverse, all colors, different religions, sexual orientation etc and they are all right winged..

I find it very hard to love people that vote differently than me. They vote for people I love to not exsist, they vote for people I love to not be married, I have a hard time letting people that want that into my life

I was raised evangelical, then Assembly of God as a teen. The church I went to was very diverse and filled with immigrants, many of them undocumented and all welcomed. They are almost all Republicans now and support Trump. I don’t understand it. I understand the pro-life stance (I’m pro-choice) and I think that many just don’t understand the important need for the healthcare side of abortion. They still won’t understand it even if you explain it because they really think that the healthcare part will cover them because that isn’t an abortion, even though it is. My husband had a vasectomy because if I get pregnant again, I will die. I almost died with my last child and I’ve had 3 strokes since. My Dad said that he believes god would protect me and the baby if I conceived. I am worried about friends that were undocumented as teens and I do not know all of their statuses right now. One of my friends was married to an undocumented man and they divorced before he got his citizenship. They have a child together and when they divorced he was arrested and convicted of a misdemeanor. I have friends that immigrated from Venezuela who I constantly worry about, even though they came over legally. My husband has been listening to you while I commented and asked who you were. He knows you from the story about your wife, and he said, “Oh, I thought it was Cory Booker.” He then started talking about how exclusive his family was. They only allowed people “like them” in and said, “No, don’t play with them.” when he was a kid. He didn’t realize it until he was an adult.
