They weren't upset with him for having an opposite opinion on Stop Killing Games. They were upset that he completely misrepresented what the initiative is. Then, after not understanding the initiative to the point of it coming off as intentional, he refused to seek clarity on it when people attempted to correct him on it. Who he was as a person really came through when he couldn't do something as simple as admitting he was wrong in his understanding about something so trivial. I'm not going to hate on the guy, I don't have that kind of time, but I can see how this led to people starting to look into other things he may not have been representing accurately, and it turned up a lot about how he represents himself. It's sad, really. I still tune in every once and a while, because I was a fan, but, as an aspiring coder myself, I have no interest in watching him forgo his projects to play the flavor of the week game. Finish your game, dude.

Stop killing games is not opposed to live service games shutting down, but when they do choose to shutdown they want the publishers to release a server binary so that the community can run their own servers if they wish. See City of Heroes as an example of this in practice.

There is absolutely a ton of people hating because it's the trendy thing to do. But I have personally seen a lot of toxicity from him about various things. I don't like him much, but I certainly don't go out of my way to hate, I just try and ignore him.

You're also forgetting the fact that he went fully mask off about SKG, which is about consumer protection by the way, and told people he would actively tell others to protest it. In front of 10s of thousands of people. But money is why he's catching criticism. That makes sense.

yea i dont think i could ever support someone openly selling out to something thats so full of hate and insanity that its endangering people,thanks. you might be wondering how its endangering people,well Thor has had several swat attempts now,those are attempted murder, also his family and some friends cant operate life normally without now getting insane threats akin to what Somali pirates do to prisoners.

I don't agree with ALL of the hate and I generally like his content, but he misrepresented the movement, he didn't read the whole thing, and since he has a huge following, he misinformed a huge portion of people with his stance which damaged the movement. And then doubled down on his misinformed stance rather than own up to his mistake.

It should be important to note that he was basically a glorified intern at blizzard, and he's been caught lying about his level of experience on multiple occasions, and the main reason people are mad at the moment is not about what he's done, albeit that part of it, rather his complete unwillingness to admit wrongdoing despite near insurmountable evidence

95% of the people seem to think there’s a magical switch at the publishers that they could just flick and unlock the game because they have no idea how dev works, and the rest are just clout farming for views or to sell rip off courses to make money.

I have no idea why anyone is hating Pirate Software. He seems just so humble and never talks about working for Blizzard. He knows when he makes mistakes and doesn't double down at all. Also super good at coding. 😁😁

It's not so much people are hating him for disagreeing. its because he misunderstood or misrepresented it so shockingly bad and isn't open to any discourse to understand it better, backed up by basically banning or blocking everyone who disagrees with him. That's my understanding anyway.

I don’t understand the hate, aside from the clicks and money. I might disagree with his opinion on the Stop Killing Games initiative. But his points are rational and he articulated them clearly. But I also agree with him on most other things and he seems like a genuine, down-to-earth person.

hey, just fyi: you misrepresented the skg moment and glossed over PS's mischaracterization his game is almost undeniably vaporware I think the onlyfangs drama is important if only for seeing what put him at odds with the Internet at large. I also think the incident and surrounding events reveal quite a bit of his character, which seems consistent with how he is handling all the hate.

PS has done a lot of negative, hateful things so it's not unwarranted. the stop killing games initiative, he misrepresented the movement, and therefore almost killed something that would essentially be about consumer protection
