@cbsnews: Speaker Mike Johnson said he's "really not sure" if President Trump can fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, when asked by CBS News' Caitlin Huey-Burns on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the president asked a group of Republicans if he should fire Powell and several people in the room voiced approval. Multiple sources have said Trump indicated he will do it. "I talked to them about the concept of firing him. I said, 'What do you think?' Almost all of them said I should. But I'm more conservative than they are," Trump told reporters on Wednesday. The idea of a president removing a Fed chair is legally untested — federal law says the chair can only be fired "for cause." #news #Trump #Fed #politics #Washington #government

The Federal Reserve Act says the president can remove the chair "with cause" the debate will be what qualifies as "cause". Very broad and subjective language. Speaker isn't wrong here....

Mike :
Can Trump try to fire Jerome Powell? Yes but the Supreme Court is not going to allow it because there’s no misconduct from Jerome Powell. There’s a difference between difference of policy, opinions and neglect of the economy

firing him would collapse the treasury market, and they would have to raise those rates 1-2% this would directly correlate to mortgages as well. also the stock markets will not react well to that. they both hate uncertainty.

Bigger issue regarding Powell people don’t grasp is the Fed reserve is self funded by interest on securities. Have been running at a deficit since fiscal year 2020. If they were to reduce the interest rates that would also reduce their cash flow. How is that not a conflict….
