We've been told our whole lives it's our fault. Talked to like we have zero concept of the basics around nutrition and exercise. Passed over socially, romantically, and professionally. So when we enter a "safe space" we feel the need to justify our understanding so that we don't lose your kindness and watch you become like all the others who see us as less than.

from someone who has lost over 170lbs in 2 years naturally. the key is internal naritive. You need self love and acceptance and support to help you. 💜 There's no shame in asking for help or wanting to feel better. Start with accepting and finding love foe yourself as you are. Then build from there. 💜 This video is so right.

Thank you for treating us with kindness. Obesity often has several factors including health factors, mental wellness, childhood trauma, genetics, addiction, poverty, how your parents raised you around food. we know we are fat we just want to be able to live in a society that treats as as worthy of kindness love and respect

Years of dieting, body shaming, bullying, gaslighting by doctors who tell you just eat less and move more is why I have struggled with weight loss my whole life

“Obesity” 👏 is 👏 not 👏 a 👏 disease 👏The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as “abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health,” but does not classify it as a disease, it frames obesity as a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and some cancers. Been told by medical and lay people my whole life to my face, behind my back or on a billboard. Eat less, stop being lazy and you’ll be skinny. And by the way, the implication is that skinny is good, fat is bad.

I’ve been shamed my entire life for being overweight - my mother, aunts and uncles, classmates, doctors, strangers, colleagues. We are told everyday we don’t belong in society. I’m so hopeful that the generations coming up practice medicine the way you do. I’m so hopeful the younger people will not have to live a life of shame and pain.

It's not just the internalized bias, for many it's medical trauma. Every doctor I've ever seen has talked to me like I have never heard of dieting, has told me how "easy" it is to lose weight, and/or told me that I need to try harder.

Society blames people for being ‘fat’. ‘Fat’ people are seen as lazy and greedy. I don’t think this attitude will change. Weight loss drugs have made it even worse. These drugs are seen as a miracle, an easy fix. If fat people succeed it is only because success is not due to effort but due to an easy medication fix.

I have Pcos and tried my best to loose weight but nothing worked…. I had perfect body before Pcos and was very fit but after that everything was ruined…. And now I feel nobody tries to understand the reason behind why someone gained weight but rather they judge you for that… also society still has beauty standards which makes any one who is little overweight to feel kinda out of the beauty zone..

I didn’t know we have obesity specialists in Canada, this is so great! May I ask what kind of dr you are? Endocrinologist? People are constantly shamed for being overweight but when it comes to treatment, it’s just “eat less, exercise more” and insurance doesn’t even cover prescribed weight loss medication, which some people can greatly benefit from. If it was really about health, none of this woukd be the case.

38, overweight with PCOS and doing fertility treatment for 9 years… tried to talk to my family doc twice about managing my PCOS and have been told twice “I don’t know anything about that but I know diet and exercise are important.” Left crying feeling misunderstood, dismissed. We have such a shortage of doctors in my area, how do we access care from docs who actually want to and can help?

there was a TikTok about weight loss being hard and more than CICO. Someone replied about hormones, diseases etc contributing to difficulty losing weight. The responses were disappointing but unsurprising: "no, CICO works and you're just not doing it right".

Oh I wish you were my practitioner. I had a terrible experience last week. I’m in so much chronic pain and was told if I lost weight and strengthened my core all would be better. Period. I’m in the process of losing using medication and an exercise specialist. But that moment was so defeating.
