This is such a weird interpretation of that arc. The Avengers were clearly never in the right in thinking they were better equipped to handle the Phoenix Force, as proven by the fact that their only plan was "blow it up."

Characterizations aside, I fully believe that Cyclops becoming a Dark Phoenix is an ironic and self-fulfilling prophecy. If the Avengers hadn't intervened and tried to destroy the Phoenix Force, it might not have happened at all.
