If it makes you feel any better, I bought my home in 2021, excited for the future. However, since that time. I have: had to replace the plumbinng for 6 grand, replace 3 toilets. Rewired the entire house. Replace the compressor on the AC, replace the capacitor on the AC, replace the dishwasher, stove, oven (because they were separate), fridge, bathtub, flooring, and ceiling tiles. All of these were necessities just to make the house livable, not cute. We’ve also spent 6k fighting termites, mice, and a raccoon family that was determined to keep our patio as its home. We STILL have flooring to replace, and electrical in our mother in law suite that needs to be rewired. There are TONS of smaller, less important projects that I would LOVEEE to tackle but the aforementioned projects have essentially ruined any chance of that. I’m very lucky that after fixing all of these problems, (a lot by myself) that I’m still not struggggling to survive and make ends meet, but owning a home is a full time job. It’s non stop work that is fully expectant on YOU. It’s hard, expensive, and unending. There are some upsides, but remember that even when you get here, the grass isn’t always greener. I do hope if you truly want to own a home one day, that you will get there, but after talking to almost everyone I know who has a home, new or old, problems exist across the board.
