My ex threatened me. Married 20 yrs, SAHM, 4 kids, 1.1M house. Couldn’t move out because I didn’t have a paycheck showing 3x rent. No domestic violence shelters because I had savings, couldn’t get a mortgage because no job. Slept in my car and cheap hotels w/o my kids.

But, the math is not correct and that’s where people get in troubles if your salary is 40k, you actual salary after taxes, social security, & healthcare would be 27k. And people, have to realize this asap. Therefore, 40k is poverty level in any state!

It's not just Boston I was born and raised in Quincy just outside Boston. Those prices are bleeding out into the surrounding area. I moved to Louisiana and life got a lot easier.

avg 1 bedroom apartment where I live costs 2k/month. Imagine having to make 100k to live in a 800 sq ft apartment. The American Dream is dead.

Numbers feel off since we also have utilities. Rent doesn't include that and for my studio can run between $200-800 a month in NYC depending on how bad ConEd wants to gouge us for use. Then we have to afford food, commuting expenses, insurance, cell phone, internet at bare minimum
