I had a run in with Broward County police once. Was on vacation with a couple of friends. We were sitting in the car in the motel parking lot thinking about where to go, what to do etc. They pulled in behind us and got us out of the vehicle and searched it. (It was a while back and I wasn’t really aware of my rights). They found a “roach”. It was my buddy’s and he even admitted that it was his (probably thinking he would get off with a warning or a fine or something). They arrested all 3 of us. Spent a day and a half in jail until we finally saw a judge. Dismissed charges on myself and my other friend and gave my buddy, who admitted it was his, a fine and sent us on our way. They towed my car so needless to say we were ready to go home by the time we got it out. Haven’t been back since.

As a LEO, there’s no defending this. I wouldn’t have realized this cop was pulling me over. Maybe stop the driver and tell him to pull over to the side instead of pointing to an open lane of traffic. There was no pursuit, no evasive driving to get away, and once you get up to the car and realize it’s just a young kid getting to school, you have a conversation and let them go.
