I think with hubs life too was HE was never the entertainment. It was the content he was making, it was never about him or his personality being entertaining

I still get paid if not everyone at work likes me. I do not get paid if people online don't like me. That's misery.

You’re a wage slave to the fickleness of an audience. In a real job there’s HR, there’s unions there’s something to protect you from the whims of the larger entity you work for but in content creating, there’s no protection for you. If people decide tomorrow they don’t wanna watch you, they don’t like you, brands decide they don’t wanna sponsor you…there’s nothing you can do, no complaint can be filed, no appointment you can make to discuss the matter…you’re just OUT.

And once they quit their full time job…what do they have to talk about in their content? The most interesting creators are the ones who have lives outside the app they can draw experiences/humor from!

This might be silly but…I always think about things like benefits…like…ok even if you go viral and can monetize how are people paying for insurance?

You’re one bad day and someone recording/posting it away from being broke. Now you gotta set up a camera and apologize on a kids app. I couldn’t live like that 😭

Nahhh. This app (and my partner) allow me to be a stay at home mom! If I worked, I’d make 12k a year after daycare. If I don’t, I am more free!!

It’s the same thing with art. Once you are fully dependent on the income from creating art, sometimes you will lose some of the creativity or autonomy

As much I hate to work, I 1000% would still have a day job. What do they do if all social media completely goes away? HL lost out because people could relate to the 9-5 content and not him working out / watching tv

1,000% 10 years of creating content and I don’t care how much I make one month. I know next month can be $2. I make content cause it’s fun, the second I HAVE to do it and it’s a job, way too stressful. So much is out

normally they don't only do tiktoks and ads but also sell courses (especially if they have expertise in some field like dancing/yoga/languages/videomaking/clothes whatever). So their income doesn't depend solely on views :) I know a girl like this and she's truly living her best life and earning more than she did with her previous boring job

if you are a creative you BENEFIT from working because you can seperate the work from art and not turn it into labour. kinda reminds me the wfh isolation issue

As someone who was laid off, moved in with my partner, and have HAD to rely on TikTok as an income while looking for a job it’s not stable at all. One month I make $1k and the other I make $200. People don’t realize it fluctuates a LOT and unless you’re a huge creator you can’t fully rely on it

Don’t forget when they start selling courses for $200. It’s an immediate unfollow for me.
