The reason why I never cared about my birthday was because it was never celebrated for me. Ever since I was a child, my birthday was used for my parents as a statement to show family members how "happy" we are. I never got any real gifts, (gifts were always food), never got to have any say on what I wanted for my birthday and never even got the cake that I wanted. It was all for the guests and for my parents. You'd like to think your birthday was for you and you'd get to do and eat the things you like, but no.

I grew up in a family that was poor but always did streamers or balloons for people's birthdays, First time I did it for a partner(my ex) and he came up, walked through it all and sat down next to me and I asked him what he thought of it all cause hes never had it done for him before and he told me he didnt really look at it all and it was ok. My current bf also never had it done for him and he loved it, paused and appreciated it all and asked me to even hang up his bouquet so they can dry and last for a long time too 🥰 he knew about my ex and said he couldn't understand how or why he'd act like he did cause of how sweet and fun it all was
