What a scary time to be a woman in the world right now. What is going on? Last year was undeniably heavy. And as the new year rang in and I felt the joy and optimism that the beginning of a New Year can bring, I very quickly remembered the shift in politics that this year is bringing. I’m scared of the world I’m raising my daughter into. It feels like around the world our rights that we fought so hard to gain are being rolled back once again. The removal of Roe VS Wade was the first time in my life I realised that progression was not guaranteed, and that any of the rights we have gained - from women’s rights to LGBTQ+ rights, to workers rights - can all be stripped away. It feels like whenever we voice our concerns we are met with the same old rebukes - that it’s just a few bad apples, that it’s not all men. Or worse - distractions and divisions. And I can’t even begin to imagine what it is like to be a trans woman in this climate. How awful it must feel to have your existence weaponised against you by cis men that do not give a sh*t about women’s safety. I see you, and I will always stand up for you. ❤️ The fact is, I’m also terrified for the world I’m raising my son into. Especially when we are not even admitting that there is a man problem. The population is declining because women are choosing not to have children, and rather than focusing on why that might be and building systems to support us - better maternal healthcare, affordable childcare, better men to date(!), better flexible work - instead our reproductive rights are being stripped back and we’re hearing one of the world’s richest men talk about workplaces needing more “masculine energy”. This is not a post about man hating - it’s a rallying cry for the good men to rise up and fight with us. Stand up for us. Call your mates out on the problematic ways they talk about women. It’s also a warning to everyone to stay alert to who you give your vote to. Like men who are already started to discuss our reproductive rights. 2025 is the year we fight back.
