The first time I heard “AI” was in 1990s video games. The term AI was used for e.g. a vehicle controlled by the computer. It’s not as new as some people think.

Market timing is important for sure but also I think it was due to Google’s culture as well. They encouraged many innovative skunkwork projects inside the company - many of which never saw daylight outside Google. Google might just be the ‘Xerox’ of the AI age 🤔
