I found that not using a mirror helped! Also trying to distract myself (watching videos or a show) while practicing help make it more of a muscle memory feeling

I always practiced on doll heads when I was learning! Also it’s great to remember all braids are just moving the hair from the edge to the middle

So I just have to say I learned around 28-29 so you’re not alone 💕practice with low pigtails first so you don’t have to pull as much hair forward at awkward angles

I don't have advice but I will say that the satisfaction you get from finally figuring it out and making a Perfectly Crisp Braid is so worth the effort spent learning how to do it

Honestly the only advice I can give is don’t think about it just start doing! I taught myself in class in high school. I was so done hearing my teacher lecture zoned out started playing with my hair next I knew it was French braided down the middle!

If you think you messed up restart, don’t try to keep going bc it might make it worse

Start by watching yourself in the mirror!! It becomes muscle memory eventually 🥰

I stapled three different colors shoe strings to a cardboard box to practice on if that helps!!! Weird, but helpful

bigger chunks = chunkier and often shorter braids (unless you're French braiding)

I recommend learning a regular braid, then fishtail, then French braid💞. Just make sure you pay attention to switching sides and tension is key 🔑 I wish you all the luck! YouT videos also really helped me!

YAY!! I’m excited for you! My advice would be to make it something you enjoy doing- take the pressure off! Also, practice helped me the most! I would braid anything (the end of my blanket is frayed and I’ve braided it so many times). Utilize YouTube tutorials as well!! BEST OF LUCK YOU GOT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 25 and okly taught myself this year to braid since Ive had very short hair since I was 12. It was hard and my motor functions were NOT helping since it's something I struggle with. I like to wet my hands first and run it through my hair in the direction I want my braid and that makes parting and keeping the parts 100x easier. Also dont braid tightly. Just gently braid it in the direction you want your hair to go. Good luck!
