i soomewhat agree. he is protecting mchunu because he owes mchunu, but he is playing a long game and wants his hand to be forced to fire mchunu. he wants it to be so obvious that he needs to fire him, that mchunu (and the handlers) cannot read it as a cyril betrayal, but a consequence of the commission. cyril is not useless, he just plays a very slow and steady game. long after he has left, will we see his moves. and they would have been game changing.
