yall it was never a romance it was a lonely girl learning to love herself through learning her history and by her connection to her grandmother and finally discovering why she was in foster care. it was about her getting the change to love her grandmother instead of having hatred towards those that in her mind left her behind or didn't want her. she learns that she is and was wanted and that she is loved and to love herself too

Guys can we just stop with the “I SHIPPED THEM💔”. THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT HOW TO LOVE YOURSELF AND EXCEPT WHO YOU ARE, THIS ISNT WHAT THE MOVIE OR NOVEL WANTED YOU FEEL; ITS ABOUT THE GIRL FINALLY GETTING SOME UNDERSTANDING AND RELIEF ABOUT HER LIFE AND WHY IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS, THERE WAS NO ROMANTIC FEELINGS BETWEEN THEM ONLY THE TRUE LOVE OF FAMILY. Marnie loved her granddaughter dearly and it is showed through the whole movie that marnie loved her the moment she re connected with her because she new her even though she doesn’t know why ( obv because she’s her grandmother and she raised her but of course she doesn’t know that because she’s not real because she’s the young version of herself). This movie is a work of art and fictional it was not meant for a romance. It was not hinting to any sort of romance between girls only the love of family and a girl finally getting some understanding in her life. (sorry for the long comment.) ☺️❤️❤️❤️

It actually IS a (implied) gl love story because the mc (forgot her name) is seeing those memories through the painters eyes(theory)

I think the thing about this story is that it CAN be read as both a story of Anna accepting her queer identity as well as her ethnic identity — Anna is seeing the memories of Marnie through the eyes of the man who fell in love with. Anna is going through the memories of the person who (romantically!!!) loved marnie and that is undeniably queer on Anna's part
