THE EVER-CHANGING STORY OF MIC — A PARTY LOST IN ITS OWN SHADOW BY LOKMAN ADAM MIC can repeat as many times as it wants that it is “free to chart its own course.” Fine. Nobody is disputing that. But let’s be honest: MIC’s latest political somersault has less to do with party principle and more to do with a couple of frustrated leaders who failed to secure positions in the Unity Government. Their bruised egos are now being dressed up as “party direction.” In a way, it’s a relief that MIC has finally stepped out of the shadows and admitted its intention to leave BN. Better honesty now than pretending loyalty while leaking every whisper of the Unity Government to Perikatan Nasional as double agent. And let’s stop pretending MIC has been contesting and winning on hostile ground. For decades, MIC’s victories came in friendly, majority-safe constituencies handed to them by BN. If they think Perikatan Nasional will magically gift them a buffet of winnable seats, they are free to continue dreaming. Meanwhile, certain UMNO-haters who enjoy invoking Bosku’s name as political bait are trying to paint MIC’s exit as the end of BN’s multiethnic identity. They conveniently forget one fact: UMNO has always read the political climate better than its detractors, and that is why UMNO remains the kingmaker in Malaysian politics whether they like it or not. What makes MIC’s drama even more comical is its sudden “wait-and-see” stance. After announcing the breakup with great fanfare, now they put their decision on hold. Leaving, not leaving, maybe leaving—MIC’s internal GPS seems permanently recalculating. But one thing will not change: Regardless of how MIC tries to repackage its narrative now, the bitter aftertaste from its indecision, posturing, and opportunistic maneuvering will remain. And that stain is something no press statement, no U-turn, and no last-minute reconciliation can erase. #LokmanNoorAdamOfficial #UMNOMalaysia #BarisanNasional #SoladiritiNajibRazak #ZahidHamidi https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HG1A75Ub/
