Where I live, they tried to replace the tips by living wage and the employee didn’t want…. They know how good money it is and how they barely pay any tax on it. My sister have a financial dégree and she still work in the week end at « Madison’s » 1 week-end every 2 weeks because it’s a clear 500-600$ for about 2x6h.

In Quebec, waiters are paid less then minimum wage, get taxed 12-15% on the total sales of each check and most have to split tips with other staff members. If a table doesnt tip or walk out without paying, the waiter has to cover that expense… and also we get deducted again on our paychecks, 30% in federal taxes… only the gov wins here -slave labor.

This tipping culture in US is just crazy. It reflects a broken system! The food establishments should provide their employees better salaries instead of their employees relying on tips!

As a Brit I can’t understand the American system of tipping. Got a shock when I was on holiday a few years ago in the States. Why can’t firms/ restaurants just pay a decent wage and stop this tipping nonsense ?
