@in.daclurb: so many of you are so captured by this idea of being morally superior. You think “ well I would’ve never done that so I don’t know why they didn’t know it was wrong.” because you refuse to look outside of your own beliefs and your mind to understand that other people have different experiences in life. Teenagers and young children are constantly messing up, making mistakes and doing something offensive whether you realize it or not. Life is about changing and growing, not holding yourself guilty and accountable for something you did when you had less knowledge and experience than you do now. If you love, screaming about human rights and advocating for love yet you shame anyone who has a history that you disagree with then you are not trying to heal the world. You are just projecting your own control issues onto others. #genz #canceculture
The truth is… they don’t care about holding people accountable. They get off on veiling bully behavior with “god forbid we hold people accountable”. It’s never about empathy and compassion; it’s about shunning and shaming people.

My thing is, if I don’t like something someone has did or done, I unfollow them. That’s literally it. I don’t go out of my way to cancel them or type a whole paragraph or email their place of work. I just stop interacting with it. We as gen z need to stop making big spectacles of situations where if you don’t like what was done, DONT INTERACT WITH IT?!

As a gen z myself , I HATTEE cancel culture. Tbh I feel like everyone is walking on eggshells now because I feel like if I breathe the wrong way, boom canceled. And it’s no way to live.

I always think of Bill Burr’s take: “you had to go back 7 years to find him being an a-hole?? That’s amazing! 7 years a-hole free!!” lol

Also society changes. It's not an excuse it's reality & how can it change for the better if people aren't allowed to grow & learn from their mistakes?

Okay, now hear me out, only to an extent, "cancel culture" is a term newer generations are using to describe the movement of holding people that did questionable or downright harmful things accountable, either in the past or present. As a millennial, I am on board with it...

They have such a black or white mentality. when if we're being honest the world operates in the grey. No one is perfect including themselves.

It’s unrealistic to think moral purity can exist without also allowing growth. Ppl can’t help the family and situation they are brought up in, and it impacts their behavior and views. What’s important is to allow an environment where we welcome change in mindsets as we grow rather than demonize it.

its literally the core concept of therapy when you deal with shame to be able to forgive yourself and how thats all that matters. it just makes me sad to think these people are probably so self critical they are projecting this to others by holding them “accountable” for past actions

I'm sure I said stuff when I was a teenager 20 years ago that I definitely wouldn't now. Partly because I still had a lot things to learn and partly because a lot of the language we use has changed in that time. It must be exhausting to be a young adult these days.

I realized that cancel culture has kinda died/failed bc James Charles still has a platform after talking to minors. It’s really odd how it ends up happening, who gets actually canceled and who gets to stay regardless of issues.

I have also seen people use it just as an excuse to bully? I saw a comment where someone said something horrendous and they were like "it's okay because she is anti-feminist", like bullying the woman wasn't anti-feminist in itself.

I think of what happened with Mercury Stardust. they tried to cancel her because of some comments made in a podcast YEARS ago even though everything about her has changed and she's done nothing but spread love and kindness. if you have one problematic take during a not so great time in your life, you're somehow sentenced to a life of being considered problematic? like are you fucking for real? people grow and change all the time but they'd rather just sit in their circle jerk of moral superiority than acknowledge people - including themselves - are human. it's a puritanical and cowardly approach to existing.

As a ‘92 Millennial, I’ve noticed Gen Z is utterly incapable of looking at things in context. Society changes. What isn’t acceptable now might have been acceptable when they said it. For example, 25 years ago, not only was the r-word acceptable to say, but it was something people would call their friends

you can't do anything around gen Z without it being so called problematic you can't listen to music without somebody being problematic you can't even dress up as fictional characters without the character being problematic the fictional character. somebody tried to say I was a bad person for dressing up as Freddy Krueger cuz Freddy Krueger killed kids he is a fictional character..
