I have said it before and I'll say it again: Jenny Han is a VERY mid writer who struggles with inconsistent characterization, realistic and authentic conflict, and message. No one can deny that her stories are at times fun, but it's worth pointing out that they're also extremely flawed

I fear making Jeremiah have debt, not graduate, and always babied, while Conrad is in medical school, going to therapy, and hasn’t been with anyone since Belly, was enough damage they didn’t even need him to cheat at that point

Already said this but let me say this again. Jenny Han really needs to work on her writing style if cheating is all she can come up with in terms of the plotline. She needs to work less on giving every character a Taylor swift song and references from other books and needs to work on the story line of her books.

The summer I turned pretty was written to be a love triangle of course there’s gonna be some messy stuff like that, but yeah it is also too much sometimes that seems like a lazy effort to add drama to the story

i feel like she does it bc it’s the easiest trope to write in, it’s like a cop out trope, so she doesn’t have to think too hard about what the ‘fall out’ will be - i feel like a lot of writers do this

To be fair, the cheating in the series is much worse than in the books. Taylor and Steven don’t cheat in the books at all. Jeremiah slept w that girl once, not twice and it was actually belly who started that fight that led to the break up. Its still bad what he did, but they worsened it in the series.
