What if they’re an introvert and what drives them is not having to do 2.5 hour dinners with their boss?

Im a keystone employee at my company. Been there 10 years. And im at the point that there is nothing they can do to stop me from leaving imminently. Its just a matter of time. My biggest dilemma is if they deserve a notice or not.

You don’t need dinner you need scheduled 1:1 meetings and checking in with them everyday! A good leader leads and empowers.

No companies do this anymore. At least the ones I’ve worked for.

Yup. Two small businesses I worked for back in the day ended up going under once I left. They were perfectly happy to have me doing the work of 4 people for the pay of one, and never give me a raise. When I quit they begged me not to go ... because nobody in their right mind would do the work I did for such low pay and no benefits. I tried to tell them, but they didn't listen until it was too late

My favorite is that I got a certification (big deal for my industry) and said I wanted a particular development path. Stepped back from that path due to workload and under staffing and now I’m stuck where I am at and being passed up for the development path I want. I’m a great employee but the instant I find an employer that has the role I want I’ll be gone. Nothing can keep me now.

The people commenting about money have never met someone who values purpose more than paycheck. It is real. You need to create opportunity for them to achieve in the ways they hope for or someone else will. Value them if you value them.

Start by separating those who are truly critical from those who think they are. So often they confuse themselves into thinking.
