Before you chuck your collection, he is not saying that he thinks Ep is innocent. He actually believes quite the opposite. He doesn't believe "the list" exists, which is a completely fair opinion. It was probably destroyed years ago by people paid to do so. It's actually pretty funny, if you think about it, that the world's rich and powerful would allow any such list to continue existing. It's too easy to hire people to make it go away without a trace.
