The freedom motif is for characters who are trapped because they were so hungry for freedom, not characters who have overcomed their imprisonment.

Emmet is the best one in this list imo. A lot of people are connecting the motif with just wanting to be free but i think it more so highlights characters that want to be free but can NEVER be free. Emmet wants that freedom but he’ll never be more than a toy in the same way spamton, jevil, ramb and seam feel.

every one of these is just "characters i like" and ignore that the thing freedom motif characters have in common is that they're all unhinged

Truman is rly the only one I agree with- the moteif represents wanting freedom above everything else but not being able to achieve it for whatever reason

John, Dutch (and maybe Uncle?) were right there, John wants to be free of his past as an outlaw, Dutch believed he was free because he was an outlaw, before finally realizing he was trapped by his own nature, addicted to the thrill of being an outlaw, and uncle possibly, since he doesn’t really have anything truly weighing him down (atleast that i can remember) but I’m not sure if the freedom motif would work with him BECAUSE he’s free, usually they’re bound my something (Jevil in his cage, Spamton with his strings, Gerson in his GRAVE) I just feel like Arthur doesn’t fit as well as the 2 (possibly 3) i mentioned

The Roaring Knight :
Do yall know that the freedom motif is supposed to represent a character that is either striving or thinks they’ve achieved freedom, but there’s something holding them back? Jevil thinks he’s free, but in reality he’s still locked in a cage, no matter how aware he is. Spamton wants to and thinks he’s achieved freedom, but even in NEO, he’s still strung up by chains. Even Gerson seeks freedom, freedom by affecting those around him, and this is shown by how he’s a mentor character to Susie.
