I’m 58, and just starting my process. It’s so hard. To believe something for so long and suddenly realize “Nope. I don’t think this is right.” Change is hard. But not embracing my authenticity is much harder. I feel like I’ve been gaslighted hard. Maybe not on purpose.

No they will not allow them to do anything in the church. They judge them, and when they don’t come back they don’t even visit or call to let them know they’re missed because they don’t want them. I know this because I have two gay daughters and this is how the church that I went to treated them. All the pastor of the church wants to preach on is how wrong it is. He always starts out with the words “scripture says”. I stopped going the first of June and as long as he is there I probably won’t go back. I have been going to this church for 33 years so this was a big step for me. I will no longer turn and look the other way.

Before I completely left the church I tried a Methodist church that claimed "everyone" was welcome. On the surface it looked okay but I saw the undercurrent almost immediately when they fired the music director. The reason? He got married. I ran for the hills and never looked back!
