Born on this day in 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland - Swipe left ⬅️ Today, Temptations fans, we celebrate another Temptations birthday! The late Otis "Damon" Harris, formerly of the Temptations from 1971 to 1975, would've been 75 years old today if he was still alive. Many of us say that he was the closest thing to sounding like the Tempts' original first tenor Eddie Kendricks, and that's no lie. Whenever you listen to him sing, you might think you're listening to Eddie, but you're really hearing Damon. He sang on songs like "Love Woke Me Up This Morning," "Smooth Sailing," "Hurry Tomorrow," "Heavenly," and their number one hit two time Grammy award winning song "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone." Damon truly embodied his role as a member of his inspiration, the Temptations. It always amazes me how he was in his early 20s and succeeded so early in his career at the time. Before his time with the group, he formed his group with some of his friends in high school as The Young Tempts later changed it to the Young Vandals in the mid-60s to early-70s. He looked up to Eddie Kendricks a lot and studied everything movement and sound. It paid off, didn't it? As a member of the Temptations, he recorded five of their albums from 1972 to 1975. Damon is absolutely one of my favorite Temptations. If you know me, Eddie is my second favorite member behind Paul Williams, but I really admire how well Damon sounded exactly like him. Nobody has come close since then. He was the perfect Eddie Kendricks replacement. Rest in peace, Baltimore legend.
