I liked Luke before he sold out to Dawn. Now I’m having an existential crisis. Do I become a “before Luke sold out” hipster? Or do I become a pretentious “Dawn sellout” comment goblin?

Bodywork is a special kind of hell. That’s why we pay someone to do it.

instead of sanding it perfectly smooth I'd probably paint the whole thing with truck bed liner and maybe a green paint on top but i don't mind that bumpy look if its everywhere.

The van saga makes me feel a lot better about not caring about my POS car and just driving it in whatever condition it's in. respect for saving the van, but I could never, lol

I hate that part of a project when so much have been done already, but so much more has to be done yet.

Not an expert opinion here at all, but have you heard of soda blasting? it's like sand blasting, but uses baking soda i think. my uncle uses that method to strip paint. it's less abrasive, doesn't eat away the metal, does remove rust, and I'm told the layer it leaves behind prevents rusting for several months. my dad has used this method too. he got the kit at harbor freight.
might be a good option for you.

I took an auto body course one year. it was kind of cool cuz they had like a waterfall thing for when you did painting and also the bondo patching but I don't think it'll be something I would want to do all the time.

Yeah brother some trades I get to beginner/novice and I make the informed decision that I can’t or won’t excel at it. If my lack of skill takes up too much of my time I see it as a huge L.
