beating me with whatever she could get her hands on while screaming that I was worthless, stupid, a waste of time, she didn't want me, etc. I learned earlier that the second I shed a tear from the verbal abuse she would start the beating in order to give me a reason to cry. No one bothered to stop it. Everyone around us knew what happening and did nothing. The only person that tried was Granny, but she was in such poor health there wasn't much she could do. She called CPS once and my mother refused to take her anywhere for over a month as punishment. CPS saw her beating me and did nothing. My childhood therapist praised her for it. I got out at 18, moved in with the man that is now my husband. I have been safe for over a decade, but I am not free. I gain my freedom when she is gone forever. As long as she lives, I feel like a prisoner.
