This may be unpopular, but we are a foster household as well as just having a lot of pets in general (or at least relative to some folks), and there are just animals in our home that are off limits to kids. They’re instructed to give them plenty of space. They know that if I’m working with that animal, feeding it, caring for it, loving on it, etc, that it’s not the time to approach me. I want my home to be a place of peace for each living soul that occupies it, and sometimes that means big boundaries.

My cat threw a complete fit the first few days of summer break. He would yell in the morning, around the time we would be getting ready for school. He had the routine of cuddling me after I dropped the kids off, he wouldn't go near me the first few days, then he would attack my legs at night. He lives for our cuddle time so it was a hard adjustment for him 🤣
