we've never stopped, most people don't care if it's "offensive" because we usually use them among friends/people that don't flip out over a word being used. sure I got liberal friends and sure I'll (attempt) watch my mouth around them, but it's really just so I don't have to get into another argument with them.

If I had to guess it’s because in their liberal circles people stopped saying it , and now that they are back interacting with people who don’t 100% agree with them they are seeing it again.

My friend group ended up just evolving so the straight people all say gay and the gay people all say straight, both as "offensive" terms. Or call each other vise versa. Not out of needing to change or adjust the terminology, just found it funnier that way

The other one is fine but using gay that way is childish ash icl. I don’t find it even remotely offensive but it’s just so juvenile. Most people stopped doing that after middle school from what I’ve seen.
