Do you know for the RAP would student borrowers have to consolidate their loans into 1 for RAP?

I think I would rather stay in the SAVE with no payment and let the interest accrue than pay $300 on a different plan and still have interest accrue. Does that seem like a logical thing to do?

I’m 53 this fall, make $48-51k depending. I hold $164k and that amount includes well over $20k in interest. Even if I work another 15 years w/2% pay increase my monthly amount won’t cover anything on principle, and by social security (if we still have tgat it 14 years) my monthly payment drops way down because if barely get $2k for SS (if no changes in future) and maybe $100 mandatory distributions/mo from 401k. I’ll either die well before it’s even a fraction paid off OR I’ll hit forgiveness and pay $0 for tax bomb due to insolvency. I’ll always owe more for student debt than what my income/savings/401k are.

Are there any plans that are still currently giving forgiveness for the 25 years of payment for consolidated parent plus borrowers. Currently in Save.

What about new PPL borrowers? This is first year borrowing and I was informed that only this year can go into an IDR but that if do PPL after July 2026 lose that IDR because all PPLs will be convert to a standard repayment plan, with no PSFL option. So now I have to decide if I should even do PPL at all. Isn’t even worth it now? Or do I go to a private loan for the lower interest since losing all the PPL benefits. I am panicking because I have to decide asap for this school year.
