as someone who started college in 2020: this started in zoom when we couldnt respond in class and had to use the chat, then snow balled w a bunch of profs not giving room to discuss, then the videos of people talking in lecture started going viral, and then everyone started talking about “the annoying one who always answers the question in class” not saying it isnt bad, but its complicated

if you have to take a minute to think of the answer to the question, you have to communicate that. "hmmmm...." or "let's seeee...." or in this case, raise your hand when your name is called!

same. I teach first-years at a CC. They take entirely too long to buffer/process, are too afraid of being perceived/canceled and are afraid of being 'cringe'. Especially in a college course that's costing them money. I model not caring/being goofy/open/sharing but I just can't reach them.

I directed a music video last year and these 3 dancers just 😐 as I gave them direction. No head nod, no smile, no “okay great” just 😐 hahaha

My 1st back to school dream this year was a full class just Gen Z staring at me. No responses to anything, no matter what I did. I usually dream about kids talking so much I can’t get their attention or not having the syllabus ready, but the Gen Z stare was much more of a nightmare! 😅

tbf i do the "gen z stare" but it's because I have dpdr & adhd so I'm like a good chunk of the time dissociated 🤣
