I’ve stayed in the red light district multiple times in hostels. It really is not as bad as it would seem. Needing to keep your phone put away is because you’re not allowed to record the people in the windows.

As a Belgian, the fascination with the red light district baffles me. We got one in a few major cities. You get used to it? Like is it the puritan culture of the US that gives it shock value?

It's basically 2 blocks and a huge tourist spot now so not sketchy at all. (you should keep an eye on your wallet and phone secure in all major European cities)
