Love the change, but yeah they’re modern constructs. I do wish we could use language from her time that she would have identified with. I worry about what gets lost in translation when we flatten global expressions of queerness into a western English model. I’m two-spirit, and even that is a pan-Indian umbrella term.

The fact we have historical documentation showing historical figures preferred gendered language not inline with their agab and museums and historians are ignoring that because they don’t want to put the modern label of trans is forcing modern frameworks onto historical figures… the very thing they claim to be trying to avoid

Now if museums would portray their marbles in the known colors they were painted in. (Some we really do know) Either by having recreations next to the ogs or possibly projected on. Then another perpetuated myth about whiteness back then would begin to lose its grip. The pronoun thing is a step in the right direction. After all they/them as a singular pronoun is as old as either 13th or 14th century (forgive me it’s been a while) and was found in a poem about a werewolf of all things. 😂

they're literally respecting the wishes she had during her life. maybe she wouldn't have identified with the modern identity language we use, but clearly she wanted to be seen and thought of as a woman

Trans people have existed throughout history in this shitty thing is historians have basically grabbed our history and was like no it’s not and they’ve also done the same thing to gay history too and it’s nice. They’re finally not doing that. I hope the great friends can actually be lovers finally
