i learned about this fascinating history recently when i found myself wondering why so many nail techs are Vietnamese. my mom's lovely nail tech (who just recently opened her very own salon!!) mentioned going to visit family and it suddenly struck me how seemingly disproportionately many nail techs ive known are from Vietnam! it's such a fascinating story and really highlights the resilience of this group of people finding their way and making their own place in a new country

She's also devoted her life to Big Cats, running Shambala Preserve. She actually sleeps in their enclosures with the Big Csts (lions, tigers, etc). She's 95 now, don't know if she still does that, actually, but she's a special soul 💞

I like what you said, that every time you go in to get your nails done you think about this. Thank you so much for educating me on this topic. This will absolutely have me pause for reflection every time I get my nails done. I’m already in awe of the men and women who work in the salons. They do such amazing work and I know I could never make my nails look as amazing as they do. I’ve been going to the same nail technician for over 15 years. She is amazing and everyone in the salon makes it wonderful experience.
