@brandonfero.usa: Replying to @blitzman206 Why didn't the US take up the RPG design? Several reasons. #mlrt #rpg #veteran #army #taskobjectives #strategy #tactics #cod #battlefield
Really is a case of doctrine as well. The Soviets and now Russians have dedicated ATGM teams with MÉTIS of Koronet missiles for engagements at range, while regular infantry units would be operating with a platoon of BMPs who have Konkurs

The advantage of the RPG is the variable types of rounds you can carry including thermobarix (for use against bunkers) and the AP round (which is basically a cylindrical claymore). I can understand why the US moved away from it in the 60s but honestly I think this was a mistake. Every conflict from Iraq to Ukraine has proven it's effectiveness in many different types of warfare.

Did the LAW get used in GWOT?

Especially in the GWOT the M72 law was very useful in an anti infantry/structure role. We have dedicated infantry round ones now, but light infantry units like 75th and SFGs can carry a dozen of them into a fight

This is a similar reason as to the adoption of the M249 SAW. By swapping the SAW to the same caliber of ammo that riflemen are using troops are able to effectively carry more ammo with less weight because everyone doesn’t need to stock an additional caliber for the SAW.

How does a few AT4's remove firepower from a squad? They are not that heavy?

in the cold war, the Soviets thought they'd be on the assault, the Americans thought they'd have tanks in defensive positions. an RPG is better than nothing, but on the defensive, a tank beats everything else on the ground

Back in the 90s the Dragon (javelin predecessor) was deployed in the heavy weapons squad so it didn't take away from the other squads. I assume this is true with the javelin.

Don’t we make the Airtronic clone of the RPG-7 which I think sees very limited use also remember the RPG-7 can use fragmentation grenades aswell not only the HEAT warhead we all know about

Doesn't the US have the PSRL-1 as a RPG clone/version?

Well they kinda did but it was in the form of a recoilless rifle. Reusable, recoiless with a backblast, uses HEAT for anti tank. Very similar even though it takes a different route considering delivery.

to be fair we had equivalents to the RPG in the form of the the M20 bazooka and the M67 recoilless rifle. also, inbetween the LAW and the javelin we had the dragon which is a pretty important evolutionary step between the two

I handled a few RPG-7's very inaccurate, sure multiple warhead options. but they are poorly manufactured and had a very high dud rate.

Would the Carl gustov not be a pseudo variant of the rpg ? I know they typically are not issued to normal infantry and more so SF and rangers but is it not the same principle?
