You are lucky in a way Jess cos my mam has mixed dementia and not one single bit of it have been ‘good’ her dementia has totally changed her personality and made her become angry/agressive/frustrated/psychotic and lots more and this bad stage has been going on for three years. Almost ten years since first diagnosis. Every single persons dementia is different. 💔💔

do they start to become less self aware of their condition in mid to late stages? I've heard of that happening but I'm not sure

We were lucky, my Mum was very much a beautiful soul throughout hers. Although she showed fear here and there. I'm her youngest child and I was first to be forgotten but her face lit up everything she saw me because she called me her friend. That was good enough for me. My Mother-in-law on the other hand never forgot who I or her Son, my Husband were. She would smile like mad when she heard our voices and when we sat and talked to her and loved it when we sang together. I feel privileged to be with you on your journey with your lovely Nan. Yes do more to explain to help others travelling a similar journey. Much love Jess 🤗🥰💕💕💕💕

I work in a care home which is two buildings and a newly renovated dementia unit. I said from the start that wasn’t the type of care for me as a support worker I preferred the mental health/neurological brain injury side. I did one shift on the dementia unit, 3 months later I’ve never left and chosen to work there indefinitely. No day is the same and you can get so much from a person I adore it.

There is also sanfalipo syndrome where children are essentially born with dementia. Although sanfalipo is an enzyme disease it’s known as childhood dementia

Some forms of dementia completely change a persons personality. They can go from shy to outgoing and inappropriate and soft natured to angry and argumentative.

Sanfilippo syndrome is also called children's Alzheimer's or children's dementia because it acts like dementia in an older person but affects younger kids and early adulthood.
