What if healing gets to be fun? As a coach and connection expert, one of my favorite things to do is get people feeling more connected-to themselves, and to each other. Over the years, I’ve experimented with all kinds of ways to make that happen. From intimate storytelling potlucks to interactive workouts to secret sauce socials to coaching groups, I’ve been obsessed with creating spaces that invite people to show up authentically + playfully. But one of my all-time favorite ways to do this is through Powerful Stuff LIVE! - an experience I designed that brings together the tools I use as a coach with a few of my other favorite things: music, stand-up, storytelling, and connection. Each event starts with intention. I always offer a moment for people to land and get present and most importantly, to meet the people around them. I don’t want anyone walking into a room of strangers and leaving strangers. Then, I guide a meditation that speaks to the theme. This past Friday, the theme was turning darkness into light. We reflected on a “dark night of the soul”-a painful moment from our lives that we can now laugh about-and we turned up the absurdity of it (I’d tell you how I dialed it it up but want you to use your imagination 👀) I then told my own story connected to this theme about how I broke a long-standing pattern of giving my love away to emotionally unavailable men—through an unexpected (and deeply humbling) trip to the Peruvian Amazon. A journey that included jungle purging, and the realization that maybe the emotionally unavailable one… was me. I can laugh about it now - and did with the audience- but at the time it felt like utter despair! After I shared, the audience turned to someone new and shared their own version: a time that once felt heavy, that they can now find humor in. And then we moved into the show with musicians and comedians - artists sharing their own personal stories- the vulnerable, humorous, beautiful, and messy. Then my favorite part of the night is always when the audience gets the mic. Everyone breaks into groups of 4–5 and co-create something from the theme. This time, each group had 10 minutes to create then pitch a never-before-seen healing modality, inspired by Venice. The modalities were crazy, inspired, playful, and definitely ready to serve a high ticket spiritual expat community somewhere 😂. We closed the night with a crowd favorite: laugh-gazing. Just like eye-gazing, except instead of silence… you match the other person’s laughter. It starts out forced. It always does. But then, the real laughter finds you. By the end of the night, people have connected with total strangers, shared parts of themselves they didn’t plan to, and walked away with new insight, new connections, and a few new inside jokes. Powerful Stuff is both my podcast and my live experience platform. It’s my place to explore connection—not just as a concept, but as a practice. And one that believes it’s our responsibilities-not ourselves-that we should take seriously and we find deeper connection through play, co-creation, and self reflection.
