@05alextt.official: The Tupolev TU-144 was the world’s first supersonic passenger jet, developed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s. It made its first flight on December 31, 1968, beating the Concorde by two months. This sleek, futuristic plane could fly at Mach 2.15 (over 2,300 km/h) and up to 20,000 meters high. It was meant to show Soviet engineering power during the Cold War – and it worked. At least, for a while. However, the TU-144 had many problems: • It was extremely loud. • It used a lot of fuel. • It had technical issues during landing and takeoff. • And in 1973, one crashed at the Paris Air Show – seen live by the world. Because of safety concerns, it only flew 55 passenger flights between 1977 and 1978. After that, it was used only for cargo, testing, and later by NASA and Russian space agencies for supersonic research. Only 16 TU-144s were ever built, and only a few survive today in museums. Despite its short career, it remains a symbol of bold Soviet ambition – a legend in aviation history.
