My first thought was damn... do I have a Latino friend? Then I was like wait, stop it...I have lots. But I don't think of them as "Latino friends..." They're just my friends. And I talk to them and worry about them daily. 🥺

I am so glad I left my middle class bubble in 1983 and joined the USAF, I’m grateful that allowed me to live in other countries and see other cultures. I’m so glad I became a ER nurse and chose to work in large teaching hospitals in big cities. I have been fortunate enough to see the disparities between the haves and the have nots I have NEVER lost my empathy or compassion towards anyone. We ALL bleed red we ALL die afraid. I have held the dying hands of people who have killed and held the body of a dying infant with maybe a different sense of regret but regret nonetheless. I don’t know where we are going as a country and I fear for my children. Honestly I’m just very tired.

This is so true. I see it in my family, who had absolutely no clue what my biracial son has gone through in his life. They were all shocked when we started talking about it. They didn’t give a rats ass until someone they loved, my son, was experiencing it. Even though I had been talking about friends of mine who had been experiencing it forever, since they were toddlers. He’s absolutely right. There’s a lot of selfish white folks in this country you don’t give a shit about anything until it happens to them.
