my mum puts all her supplies in a clear bag (airport) and takes plenty of sugary snacks and a full sugar drink with her. Her injections and that all go in a clear bag and she takes the monitor/patches in separate bags (clear too). She sometimes takes a prescription if we’re going abroad just incase they stop her and it’s not labeled. If she’s having a bad day for sugar levels she usually lets the flight attendant know that she’s diabetic just incase xx Airport staff deal with different conditions all the time so don’t worry xx

Make sure you have a letter off hospital or gp to say what medication you take and you have to travel with it on you at all times

when testing your blood sugar, point your finger down...the pressure can cause a jet stream of blood to fly through the air. Also dont stress it'll all workout in the end

heyy just did that 2 days agoo!!
first you wanna pack your medical stuff in ONE bag you take onto the plane with you. sometimes you're allowed even one mlre "personal item" where you put the stuff you would normally take onto the plane with you in.
the technology and everything CANNOT go through the radiation scanners. Ireland for example is pretty futuristic already and they told me it was fine, but i still asked to be sesrched manually. same for the bag with the medical stuff. just don't risk it on your first time travelling via plane.
otherwise it should all be fine. don't panic during the flight, aim for stable bloodsugar beforehand and just nap or read or doze.

take ALL of your supplies in your carry on bag, bring a letter from your doctor that allows you to travel with all the medication etc (i rarely use it but it’s better to bring it just in case!!!), and don’t forget to pack lots of snacks to treat your hypos! the plane also tends to affect your blood sugars so just be careful. when it comes to packing your supplies ALWAYS pack lots of extra things in case something goes wrong (example: if you have to change your cgm twice while you’re away don’t bring just 2 sensors, bring like 4 of them). i recently traveled abroad and i was in 4 different airports in 4 different countries and all of them handled me & my supplies differently while going through security, but everything was chill at all times so don’t worry!! oh and before going through security make sure you say that you have t1d, so that they’re aware that you have an insulin pump and a cgm sensor in your body, because i’m pretty sure these things shouldn’t go through the metal detectors! but don’t worry, i know traveling with diabetes is very stressful but everything will be fine, trust me!!! hope you have a very nice trip! :)

If youve got a cgm or pump they often try to get you to go through the big scan machines but for most machines they cant go through, and sometimes they insist you can so show them a letter from the doctor and be firm dont let them push you into going through

type 1 for 32 years, got a sensor and I go through the scanner as it doesn't affect it, I don't get a doctors letter they charge £25 just get a list of medication from them that's free, all medication on carry on bag, if your going somewhere hot take extra sensors as they fall off

Ellie | Type one diabetic :
Just make sure all ur medication has it’s prescription labels and you will be absolutely fine. I haven’t travelled with a GP letter for over 6 years, they only care about it being labelled. Don’t let them put ur sensors through the scanners, make them hand search them and check what body scanner they are using as some can interfere with ur sensor and pump, so I often just get patted down. If you’re going somewhere hot get some things to keep ur insulin cool enough, sensor patches and ur bloods will fluctuate more. Remember to bring spare supplies!

if u have a pump, i’d check the company’s website for spesific info on what might need to be done during the flight (some need to be turned off and stuff like that). air pressure changes can also affect sugar levels and cause aggressive hypers or hypos, so extra snacks and working pens with fast acting insulin are a very important part of air travel. safe trip!❤️
