I had a friend pass in Feb and this will be his first birthday not on earth. his birthday is in August and my group of friends were talking about going camping at his favorite spot for his bday this year. I think a donut is a great way to honor your friend

Turn her birthday as a day where you specifically go do something nice for someone in her honor. Bonus points if it’s something she would have enjoyed doing or helping with. That way you’re spreading good vibes on an otherwise tough day.

I write them a letter, pen and paper, the only one I write most years. Talk about good memories, update them on things they’d want to know. Tell them I miss and still think of them. Once, that I was mad at them for leaving too early but mostly just with love. Then put it in the bundle with the rest I’ll never send.

I like to get or bake their favorite food. I offer them a piece or slice in a place I set up just for them next to a candle I light for them. When its time to discard their offering, I bury it, because it belongs to them.

Love the donut ritual.❤️Sometimes I light a candle, write them a note and burn it. I’ll do some activities that remind me of them or watch tv/movies that they really loved.

do what makes you feel close to her. I celebrate mother's Day with a picnic with my son at my mom's grave so we can be with her. I think getting a donut with a candle is a great way because it reminds you of her. maybe get her favorite food and watch show or movie she liked to watch too!

Yesterday was my dads bday. I just think of him. Holding him close in my heart feels like the best way to honor him. 🖤🖤🖤 Sending you love!

I bought my grandpa's favorite candy's and put them in a toy truck similar to the ones he collected. Then I just remembered what I miss about him and let myself feel what it was like to hug him, and how funny he was. And I let myself cry a lot lol. Altars help, sort of like ofrendas from Dia de Los Muertos <3

I personally think crying is still a good way to honor someone 😅 I usually take their birthdays as a day off to just relax, watch some of their favorite movies/tv shows. Just doing anything that I use to do with them makes me feel closer to them

absolutely. I go camping every year on my brother's birthday because that's what he liked to do. on the anniversary of his death I take a memento of him with me on a long bike ride with a post ride beer

my mom passed when I was young and didn't know when her birthday was until I was pregnant and realized my due date was almost her birthday. On the day she passed, I usually make lasagna because she was Italian. some years it's spaghetti and some years It's not anything

I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️I put a lot of pressure on myself to make the most of those tough anniversaries like birthdays. I had to learn to release myself of expectations and meet myself where I’m at that day. Sometimes it’s crying, sometimes it’s doing their favorite activity. There is no “right way” to grieve- you’re still honoring them with your love, however you spend that day. ❤️

My mom loved my baking, so I try to make her a cake. Some years I don’t have the energy to do it, so I order one for her. I’ve been deep in grief since she passed 3 years ago and I’m not sure that I will ever be the same person I was before I lost her. My kids make her a cup of her favorite coffee whenever they miss her. She gets coffee a lot. 😅 It was her favorite thing.

crying in the tub is a great and legit great for grief. I'll sit down and write a letter or a statement, maybe just art a bit with no expectations, light a candle or insense, put in music theylike. I'm so sorry for your loss, have that husband of yours, give you a big hug, as well. helps squish the broken pieces back together 🫂✨️💓

Grief has no calendar.
But my brain? It sets reminders.
So on your birthday, I light a candle,
eat your favorite snack,
and talk to the sky like you’re still here.
It’s not weird. It’s wiring. It’s love.
