@cleoabram: This is a battery made of sand. It’s a whopping 13 meters tall, 15 meters across, and has 2,000 tonnes of sand in it. It was just installed in a city in Finland to be its primary heat production plant. Here's how it works... The sand is not nearly as efficient compared to the lithium-ion batteries you’re using in your phone. But it's cheap, abundant, and sustainable. And could be a great way to deliver constant energy as we rely more on renewable energy sources. For more optimistic science and tech stories, follow along! #sand #energy #heat #science
Why do people say we must find ways of renewable energy as if we don’t have nuclear power?

the efficiency is questionable, why desert is cold at night then?

It sounds genius. Is it really that sustainable though? Don’t they remove entire beaches in India or elsewhere in Asia just to get this sand? I heard it’s a big problem.

Battery for solar power, "hold heat days ..." sure, November until February hardly any sun , doesn't lose any energy🤣

It only holds and delivers heat. Not electriciry, you cant get lights on with heat as vid lets you misunderstand. It’s still great if you can make heat to store from free surplus wind electricity and use the heat when needed here in cold areas. But it’s not the same as battery storing electricity. Electricity is way more sophisticated, needed, versatile and valuable and expensive than heat. I hope we can do something more valuable from electricity than heat, hydrogen or synthetic fuels for example.

Is it sand used in concrete or unusable sand from Sahara?

This is not a new invention. The Egyptians invented this 5000 years ago and on a much greater scale.

I use a buried sand "accumulator" (or battery) with 30 cubic meters of sand to store heat (that I use to heat my water and my house around the year).

No it’s not! Sand is a limited resource and doesn’t transfer energy efficiently!!
