My aunt’s dog did this exact same thing. Eventually he broke the leash, leaped into the sea and we never saw him again. Last we heard, he leads a pirate crew off the coast of Somalia under the name of Captain Grrrrrrr.

I used to work at a dog daycare and there were multiple dogs who did nothing but swim the entire 8 hour period of being outside😭 sometimes parents would have to help us get them bc they wouldn’t leave

May I recommend a life jacket? It’s good for the “what if’s” and I know no one thinks it will happen to them but it does happen. Good on you for making sure they don’t get too tired tho!

here’s some pointers that helped me. He’s experiencing being close to the water, but physically restrained, not mentality (which is what training focuses on) If you were to enforce a down stay with you inbetween him and the water, this causes you to be in his sight, reducing the lazer focus on the water. This would cause him to start focusing on you, reducing the frustration. You can then implement treats if he is the type to take them.
