@yvanabee: Replying to @B D @sid I don’t think you realize how problematic your stance is, you’re basically expressing an idea of American exceptionalism, as if countries like India, China and Russia don’t have this same argument.

The unifying culture exists, but I think people have a hard time seeing it, because it’s so globally exported. We have very little that’s exclusively ours that isn’t regional or very specifically local. Any food, clothing, or artistic work that makes it to a national level is probably also picked up in several other countries. And that’s not a problem! I love that others like what we make! But it does make American culture feel more diffuse than it would if we had any “secrets.” The things that *feel* special to me are as alien in New Jersey as they would be in Belgium.

lol Yes Texas is different from Minnesota, but as someone who's lived in both, they are also the same. both have driving culture, both have American coffee culture, both have American fast food culture, both have American work ethic. in both states you'll find a farmer who refuses to go to the hospital when they run over their foot

I think Americans are quick to deny their culture because a lot of them threw away their heritage in favor of the building blocks of yt supremacy, which is more of a cult mentality than a culture of people. Obviously culture still happens because no one exists in a vacuum, but there are certain parts of the population that really try to strip the humanity from it.

Every place has it's own, unique culture. Yes there could be some similarities from countries, but overall it is sorta similar. Like China. In each province there is a different group of foods that they eat in each culture. African culture is very diverse. Indian culture is too. doesn't make it less Chinese or less Indian. It doesn't make American cultures less American.

I feel like in order to have subculture you kinda need to have culture.

You could make a case for something like Italy, but there is less cultural cohesion between New York and Louisiana than there us between Friuli and Sicily. Or Sicily and Slovenia for that matter. The closest would be something like Russia or China where the language, politics, culinary traditions, ethnic composition and levels of cross cultural integration vary significantly enough to where the country is more of an administrative concept than a cultural construct.

Ma'am, I love your content. But if you're going to be a defender of America. No more use of treasonous metric system. Only freedom units here, aka the imperial system 🦅🇺🇸🎆 jkjk😂🤣

Northern California IS VERY different from Southern California. I guess Scotland is exactly the same as London in UK. 😎

To put it in American terms, America has a unified culture with subcultures in the same way we would never deny the existence of a Texan culture, but Houston is completely different from the Big Bend area, San Antonio is completely different from the piney woods, Lubbock is completely different from the valley.

current first gen immigrant population percentages: India 0.35% China 0.07% Russia 7.97% United States 15.28% the united states is historically a nation of immigrants. the majority (of course not all) of other countries are not like that. like I said previously, the argument was against white supremacy which claims that American culture is white Christian and all others were subcultures to that. when in actuality American culture is its diversity of cultures. this is my last attempt to clarify this as I have to go make dinner 🍽
