I could never let my babies (3 boys) cry it out and as a Social Worker who works with children who have experienced trauma it really is one of the worst things you can do to an infant. The most damaged babies are the ones that don’t cry anymore because they have learned no one comes - scared, hurt, hungry or just wanting human connection. Our compromise was having a super comfy chair in the nursery and we would go in the room and softly talk/sing to them, rub their back to settle them and often sit in the chair with our fingers through the crib and they would grip our finger while they settled back to sleep and when that grip relaxed we would leave…or fall asleep in the recliner waiting for them to release the finger. 😊

When you go get your baby when she cries. You are developing trust. She’s learning she can count on you. You’ll always be there for her.

Picking up your baby when they’re crying is the only correct answer. Speaking as a mom of a 20 year-old and a 16-year-old. They grow so fast enjoy picking them up while you can. 😭🥺

Thank you for normalizing parents changing their minds. A lot of new parents are pushed to sleep train by older generations, you tried it and it wasn’t for you. Good on you for being honest about that!

I think sleep training is heavily dependent on the child. Some children take to it super well - we also did the 5/10/15 and I never had to do more than one check in and after 2 days my son never cried again unless he actually needed something (still hungry, pooped, etc.) but if he’s happy he puts himself down within a few minutes very happily!

I always went to get my babies. As they got older they eventually learned to sleep on their own. Letting them cry just seemed cruel to me.

My son looking through is crib bars crying reaching for me was all I needed to see before we also said no thank you to sleep training. He’s 12 now and perfectly fine going to bed on his own 😂😂

I understand your heart not being able to handle it. That sweet baby! Whatever works for you do it. Don’t worry about the people judging. I myself am a new mom. My daughter is almost 6 months old and I’m debating sleep training. She’s been sleeping with me since she came home. It’s the only way she gets good sleep. Her happiness trumps what others think. Love your family!

My oldest is 21. We tried the 5 10 15 too. He would gag himself from crying and we said nope, no more. If my baby cries, I'm going to them. We had 2 more after him and we never tried sleep training again.
